Welcome to Urban Sherpa Film’s website!

Urban Sherpa is an organization with one goal in mind.

Give people Access to tools that will Empower them.

One of the mediums that we teach is Digital Storytelling.

What is a digital story? In a nutshell… A narration put to sequential imagery.

That is the simple answer.

Digital stories are rooted in traditional methods of communication, even if the term belies that inference.

For many centuries, people have huddled around the campfire, stove, kitchen table or bar table weaving their grand tale.

Often meant to startle, amaze, relate to or even educate the participants that listened in.

Movies became an extension of that. They were able transport the viewer into the world of imagination the author had created.

One thing got lost along the way, however. The feeling of inclusion. The personality of the storyteller got lost within the explosions, gun shots and car chases. The eye had to move to keep up and the mind had no choice, but to follow.

Digital stories are told in the first person and are often a story about your life. They have a beginning, a middle and an end. They employ imagery to work with your narration. The images can be as simple as old photograph, drawing or graphic.

Urban Sherpa has enjoyed the opportunity to run workshops, teaching digital storytelling to such diverse organizations as Health Canada, Douglas College, The Carnegie Centre and Directions Youth Services.

I hope you enjoy a few of the stories I have collected from some of the people I have worked with. Please feel free to drop me a line with any questions.

Cheers,

Colin
